Petta S, et al. - Both prevalence and factors associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) were assessed in a general population in a Mediterranean area. Researchers enrolled eight hundred ninety consecutive individuals in the community-based ABCD (Alimentazione, Benessere Cardiovascolare e Diabete) study. They reported that the prevalence of NAFLD was very high, and among NAFLD patients a significant proportion had advanced fibrosis (high liver stiffness measurement {LSM} values) in a cohort of a general population.
