Hypertension Sep 23, 2021
Liu K, Li C, Gong H, et al. - Among adolescents, a quite high prevalence of hypertension, evaluated by both guidelines with several risk factors, was found and a single blood pressure measurement visit results in an overestimation of hypertension prevalence in them.
This population-based multicenter study of 42,025 adolescents aged 12 to 17 years was conducted to provide precise prevalence of adolescent hypertension.
According to 2017 American Association Pediatrics hypertension guidelines, standardized prevalence of initial and confirmed hypertension were 18.6% and 5.9%, respectively, these were 24.5% and 8.8% employing 2018 Chinese hypertension guidelines.
Risk factors included male, parental hypertension history, higher heart rate, higher waist circumference, and adiposity indexes including overweight, and obesity.
