Prevalence and progression of subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with chronic kidney disease and diabetes
Atherosclerosis Jul 21, 2018
Palanca A, et al. - Researchers determined the prevalence and progression of subclinical atherosclerosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients with and without diabetes. They analyzed data from the NEFRONA cohort and carotid and femoral ultrasound exams of patients at baseline and at 24-month follow-up. They evaluated the contribution of diabetes to the presence and plaque progression by using multivariable models. Renal patients with diabetes showed more prevalence of subclinical atherosclerosis, with a higher plaque burden and more rapid progression. In these subjects, diabetes outweighed other described risk factors related to the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis.
