Diabetic Medicine Nov 12, 2018
Aydın H, et al. - Among pregnant women, prospective nationwide screening was conducted to determine the nationwide prevalence and predictors of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Turkey. For this investigation, researchers included 2,643 pregnant women from 51 centers in 12 different regions between August 2016 and November 2017. As per data, the national prevalence of GDM was found to be 16.2%, with no significant difference between urban and rural regions. Independent predictors of developing GDM were maternal age, maternal BMI, history of previous GDM, and family history of diabetes mellitus. Findings revealed that prevalence of GDM tended to increase with age. Data reported that, in Turkey, GDM is very common, and affects one in seven pregnancies.
