Prevalence and predictors of coronary artery disease in patients undergoing carotid artery stenting
Coronary Artery Disease Apr 17, 2019
Sulženko J, et al. - Among patients referred for carotid artery revascularization, researchers primarily focused on the prevalence of significant coronary arterial disease (CAD), and secondarily, on the link between the level of advancement of carotid stenosis and the presence of CAD, and between atherosclerotic risk factors and the presence of CAD. They also compared patients with symptomatic vs asymptomatic carotid stenosis in terms of CAD prevalence. In patients with severe carotid stenosis, a very high prevalence of concomitant CAD was reported. A large proportion of patients with silent CAD, among those with carotid artery stenosis, could be detected via routine preprocedural screening for CAD. Male sex, a history of smoking, and global or regional wall motion disorder on echocardiography were the factors that were related to the presence of CAD.
