Prevalence and outcomes of patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White in Danon Disease: Results of a retrospective analysis
The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation Apr 06, 2020
Brooks M, Darden D, Hong K, et al. - In view of the strong association of Danon Disease with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as well as with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome, researchers here examined a cohort of patients with Danon Disease for the prevalence of WPW and associated outcomes. From a previously described retrospective registry, records of 41 patients with confirmed Danon Disease were reviewed; 31 of these had at least one electrocardiogram (EKG) on file. In a cohort of patients with Danon Disease, approximately one-third had WPW syndrome on EKG. Analysis revealed higher rates of EKG criteria for left and right ventricular hypertrophy or both were observed in those with WPW on EKG. Further, these patients were more likely to require advanced therapies such as internal cardiac defibrillator placement and cardiac transplant.
