Prevalence and incidence of young onset dementia and associations with comorbidities: A study of data from the French national health data system
PLoS Medicine Oct 08, 2021
Carcaillon-Bentata L, Quintin C, Boussac-Zarebska M, et al. - As per estimates generated using data from the French national health data system for 76% of the French population, there were about 24,000 and nearly 5,300 persons with prevalent and incident YOD (young onset dementia), respectively, in France in 2016.
Among persons aged 40 to 64 years, YOD prevalence and incidence were estimated, and the contribution of comorbidities to YOD incidence was assessed.
Standardized prevalence rate and incidence rate were reported to be 109.7/100,000 and 24.4/100,000 person-years, respectively, and were higher among males compared with females.
Men had a higher YOD frequency vs women, which may be partly because of the higher prevalence of cardiovascular and neurovascular diseases and substance abuse disorders in men.
