Prevalence and incidence of Parkinson disease and drug-induced parkinsonism in Korea

Han S, et al. - Researchers determined the prevalence as well as the incidence of Parkinson disease (PD) and drug-induced parkinsonism (DIP) in Korea from 2012 to 2015, by utilizing the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database. They evaluated the epidemiology of PD and DIP during this time frame by using claims during 2011–2015. They observed a rise in PD prevalence from 156.9 per 100,000 persons in 2012 to 181.3 per 100,000 persons in 2015. From 2012 to 2015, a steady decline in the incidence of PD from 35.4 per 100,000 person-years to 33.3 per 100,000 person-years, respectively, was noted. A gradual decline in the incidence of PD whereas a rise in the incidence of DIP was evident from 2012 to 2015.
