Prevalence and determinants of vitamin D deficiency among the overweight and obese Singaporeans seeking weight management including bariatric surgery: A relationship with bone health
Obesity Surgery Jul 28, 2018
Ong MW, et al. - Researchers performed a prospective observational study to assess the prevalence and determinants of vitamin D deficiency in a multi-ethnic Asian population referred for weight management, including those seeking bariatric surgery. Regardless of ethnicity, vitamin D deficiency prevalence was evident among the target population comprising 111 consecutive subjects referred to a single institution weight management service in Singapore. The elderly, females, those with larger waist circumference and body fat percentage particularly showed a significant association with lower serum 25(OH)D level. Hence, they suggest performing routine screening for the overweight and obese subjects in multi-ethnic Singapore seeking weight management.
