Jallow IK, et al. - Researchers performed the first study providing detailed data on smoking susceptibility and risk factors in a nationally representative sample of young people (aged 12-20) in The Gambia. Observations suggested that this population is commonly susceptible to smoking which is associated with preventable exposures. For preventing the uptake of smoking among students, they identified raising students’ awareness of the harmful effects of smoking and reducing the prevalence of adult smoking, extending tobacco advertising restrictions to include point-of-sale, as crucial.
