Prevalence and correlates of meeting sleep, screen-time, and physical activity guidelines among adolescents in the United Kingdom
JAMA Sep 03, 2019
Pearson N, et al. - Researchers determined the prevalence and associates of meeting sleep, screen time (ST), and physical activity guidelines among adolescents in the United Kingdom. Convincing evidence that modifiable lifestyle behaviors, including sleep, moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and ST, are related to physical, social, and mental health outcomes in adolescents, are found. Nevertheless, much of this evidence comes from studies investigating behaviors independently. A growing interest in the significance of combinations of these behaviors due to their potential synergistic impacts on health is discovered. In order to improve the health of adolescents, it is important to better understand the determinants of combinations of behaviors. Few nationally representative data on the prevalence of meeting combinations of suggestions for sleep, ST, and MVPA were there, but, little is known about the related contextual factors.
