Prevalence and causes of meatal stenosis in circumcised boys
Journal of Pediatric Urology Oct 25, 2021
Acimi S, Abderrahmane N, Debbous L, et al. - Circumcised boys frequently develop urethral meatus stenosis as a complication of circumcision.
A prospective cross-sectional analysis of 1031 circumcised boys, aged 5 to 8 years (mean age 6.1 years ± 0.3 years), to determine the prevalence and causes of meatal stenosis post-circumcision.
A total of 185 children were found to have meatal stenosis, representing a prevalence of 17.9 % of cases.
Factors that were linked with the risk of stenosis development were: circumcision in the first week of life, complete adhesion of the foreskin to the glans, and the use of a healing product.
