Prevalence and associated factors of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth among systemic sclerosis patients
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Feb 12, 2019
Sawadpanich K, et al. - Between July 2015 and January 2016, authors investigated 89 systemic sclerosis (SSc) candidates to estimate the prevalence and correlated factors of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) in such patients. All the individuals experienced the glucose H2/CH4 breath test. They observed 12 candidates positive for this test with a SIBO prevalence of 13.5%. A significant association was observed between duration of disease >5 years and SIBO. They obtained an uncommon prevalence of SIBO (using the glucose H2/CH4 breath test) among Thai SSc cases.
