Pretreatment with nalbuphine prevents sufentanil-induced cough during the anesthesia induction: A randomized controlled trial
Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management Apr 17, 2020
Wang J, et al. - Researchers determined the impact of pretreatment with nalbuphine on sufentanil-induced cough in this study with 210 American Society of Anesthesiologists I–II patients aged 18– 70 years old and scheduled for elective surgery. The patients were randomly categorized into two groups: Group N and Group C. Pretreatment with 0.3 mg/kg nalbuphine at 150 s prior to induction with sufentanil was implemented in the patients in Group N, and Group C received the same volume of normal saline as the placebo. The incidence as well as the severity of cough were evaluated 2 minutes following sufentanil administration. Hemodynamic alterations as well as side effects of sufentanil were also assessed following sufentanil administration. Findings revealed a significant suppression of the incidence as well as the intensity of sufentanil-induced cough by pretreatment with 0.3 mg/kg nalbuphine.
