Pretreatment lesional volume impacts clinical outcome and thrombectomy efficacy
Annals of Neurology Jan 18, 2018
Xie Y, et al. - Experts sought to characterize the association between pretreatment lesional volume measured on diffusion-weighted images and functional outcome. Furthermore, they aimed to estimate the impact on thrombectomy efficacy for ischemic stroke with anterior proximal intracranial arterial occlusion. An independent predictor of functional outcome in acute ischemic stroke with proximal intracranial occlusion was pretreatment lesional volume. Findings revealed that the clinical benefit of adding mechanical thrombectomy to thrombolysis decreased with the increase of lesional volume.
