Preservation of the articular capsule and short lateral rotator in direct anterior approach to total hip arthroplasty
European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology Mar 16, 2018
Kanda A, et al. - This trial was conducted to investigate that protecting the posterior soft tissue increased the joint stability in the early postoperative period and resulted in a lower dislocation rate in patients who underwent primary total hip arthroplasty via a direct anterior approach. In order to preserve muscle strength, experts cut only the posterosuperior articular capsule and protected the internal obturator muscle. Entire posterosuperior and anterior articular capsule were repaired. The joint stability in the early postoperative period was increased through these treatments, thereby reducing the dislocation rate.
