Presepsin and procalcitonin as predictors of sepsis based on the new Sepsis-3 definitions in obstructive acute pyelonephritis
BMC Urology Mar 17, 2020
Tambo M, et al. - Researchers explored predictors for sepsis using this new definition in individuals with obstructive acute pyelonephritis (APN) correlated with upper urinary tract calculi. Researchers retrospectively examined individuals who were admitted to the hospital for treatment of obstructive APN correlated with upper urinary tract calculi. They obtained blood and urine samples before treatment of obstructive APN. Predictors were measured for sepsis by multivariate logistic regression analysis. There were 61 individuals who were included in this study. The results of this study indicated that, in individuals with obstructive APN, Elevation of procalcitonin and presepsin levels before treatment might predict the development of sepsis.
