Presentation and management of Killian–Jamieson diverticulum: A comprehensive literature review
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology Feb 14, 2020
Haddad N, et al. - Through literature review (PubMed and Google Scholar), researchers studied the clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and management of Killian–Jamieson diverticula (KJD). Sixty-eight cases of KJD in 59 reports (median age was 58 years old) have been identified for review. Dysphagia, suspected thyroid nodule, and globus were the most common presentation. Findings suggest that Killian–Jamieson diverticula is an unusual condition to be considered in the assessment of dysphagia, globus, and suspected thyroid nodule as well. A transcervical approach with or without cricopharyngeal myotomy, is most widely used when patient symptoms require intervention. The endoscopic approach has been proposed as an option for smaller diverticula in recent years.
