Presence of kidney disease as an outcome predictor in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension

American Journal of Nephrology Feb 27, 2018

Bitker L, et al. - In pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients, researchers investigated how right heart hemodynamics was associated with reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the association of chronic kidney disease (CKD) with survival. They found that CKD was frequently detected at PAH diagnosis and was independently related to increased mortality. It was also observed that right heart failure could induce renal hypoperfusion and congestion, and was associated with eGFR decrease.
