Presence of heat shock protein 47-positive fibroblasts in cancer stroma is associated with increased risk of postoperative recurrence in patients with lung cancer
Respiratory Research Sep 22, 2020
Miyamura T, Sakamoto N, Ishida K, et al. - Researchers analyzed 133 consecutive patients who received surgery for lung cancer in Japan from January 2009 to December 2010 to investigate if expression of heat shock protein 47 (HSP47), a collagen-binding protein, is related to the risk of postoperative recurrence of lung cancer. HSP47-positive cancer cells were present in 67 patients (50.4%), and a greater number of HSP47-positive fibroblasts were detected in 91 patients (68.4%). According to the findings, a risk for recurrence of lung cancer post-surgery was conferred by the presence of a high number of HSP47-positive fibroblasts in the cancer stroma.
