Presence of atopy increases the risk of asthma relapse
Archives of Diseases in Childhood Mar 28, 2018
Teoh L, et al. - This study entailed the elucidation of the point prevalence of respiratory viruses/atypical bacteria using PCR as well as the assessment of the impact of respiratory viruses/atypical bacteria and atopy on the acute severity and clinical recovery in children with hospitalised and non-hospitalised asthma exacerbations. A correlation was brought to light between the presence of any viruses with asthma exacerbations. However, it did not appear to affect asthma recovery. On the other hand, atopy exhibited a connection with asthma relapse. In young children, M. pneumoniae and C. pneumoniae served as rare triggers of acute asthma.
