Prescription and predictors of post-stroke antidepressant treatment: A population-based study
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica May 01, 2018
Mortensen JK, et al. - Using the Danish Stroke Registry, researchers assessed the predictors and prescription characteristics of antidepressant treatment after ischemic stroke in a clinical setting. Enrollment consisted of consecutive ischemic stroke patients. Data revealed that antidepressant treatment in this real-life clinical setting was common, with initiation in almost half the treated patients within 14 days. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors were the most commonly prescribed group of antidepressants (86%). Special focus was recommended to severe strokes as they possibly presented with a greater risk of requiring treatment.
