Prepregnancy hemoglobin levels and gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnancy

Kim HY, Kim J, Noh E, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for identifying the influence of prepregnancy hemoglobin levels on gestational diabetes mellitus. Participants in the study were Korean women who had given birth between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2015, and who had undergone a biannual national health screening examination within 6 months prior to pregnancy. Of the 366,122 candidates, GDM developed in 14,799 (4%) women. There was no correlation between pregnancy anemia and the risk of developing GDM. An association between high prepregnancy hemoglobin levels and GDM risk was identified in the report.
