Prepregnancy BMI, gestational weight gain and risk of childhood atopic dermatitis: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Mar 01, 2021
Chen W, Wang L, Yao H, et al. - Researchers examined the link between the risk of childhood atopic dermatitis (AD) and prepregnancy maternal body mass index and gestational weight gain (GWG), by conducting this review. Relevant observational studies were identified from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. They analyzed 13 studies comprising 114,485 participants. An increased risk of childhood AD was observed in relation to maternal underweight, high GWG, and excessive GWG relative to recommendations, while a reduced risk was found in relation to low GWG and inadequate GWG relative to recommendations. For primary prophylaxis of childhood AD, weight management prior to as well as during pregnancy is encouraged.
