Thein PM, et al. - In this study, prophylactic rate control agents were assessed for efficacy in attenuating the incidence of new-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (POAF) in patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery. Researchers found that prior to elective cardiac surgery, selective administration of prophylactic oral beta-blockers was safe and may attenuate the incidence of POAF.
