Preoperative systemic immune-inflammation index predicts prognosis of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma after curative resection
Journal of Translational Medicine Dec 23, 2018
Diao P, et al. - In patients with primary oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) after curative resection, researchers assessed the prognostic value of preoperative systemic immune-inflammation index (SII). For this investigation, they included two independent cohorts with a total number of 309 OSCC patients from two tertiary referral hospitals and defined as training (Nanjing, 138) and validation (Wuxi, 171) cohort. For patients with OSCC, high preoperative SII associates with poor outcome and serves as a non-invasive, low-cost and powerful prognostic predictor. This inflammation/immune-related biomarker offers the translational potential to supplement the current prognostic regime for improved patient stratification and treatment planning.
