Preoperative risk factors for postoperative urinary tract infection following primary total hip and knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Aug 11, 2020
Nguyen AQ, Foy M, Sood A, et al. - This research was carried out to evaluate selected preoperative patient characteristics as risk factors for postoperative urinary tract infection (UTI) following primary Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). A retrospective analysis was designed to evaluate the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database applying CPT codes for patients who had undergone THA or TKA from 2010-2017. Individuals were stratified for UTI by NSQIP guidelines. Researchers enrolled patient samples with all possible covariates for multivariate logistic regression analysis and evaluated for independent associations. This research serves novel data on risk factors correlated with the development of UTI following THA or TKA. It was considered that physcians should be aware of risk factors in the manifestation of postoperative UTI following primary THA or TKA procedures.
