Preoperative risk factors for postoperative urinary tract infection after primary total hip and knee arthroplasties
Journal of Arthroplasty Aug 27, 2020
Nguyen AQ, Foy MP, Sood A, et al. - This study was attempted to investigate selected preoperative patient characteristics as risk factors for postoperative urinary tract infection (UTI) after primary total hip and knee arthroplasties (THA and TKA). Researchers conducted a retrospective analysis applying current procedural terminology codes to investigate the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database for patients who had undergone THA or TKA from 2010 to 2017. Individuals were categorized for UTI by NSQIP guidelines. For UTI, individuals were classified by NSQIP guidelines. This study included a total of 983 patients (983 of 119,096; 0.83%). After THA or TKA, this research serves novel data on risk factors correlated with the development of UTI. After primary THA or TKA procedures, clinicians should be aware of risk factors in the manifestation of postoperative UTI.
