Preoperative radiographic and clinical factors associated with the postoperative floating of the lesser toes after resection arthroplasty for rheumatoid forefoot deformity
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Feb 23, 2019
Onodera T, et al. - Researchers analyzed 47 feet of 43 individuals to evaluate the preoperative radiographic and clinical factors correlated with postoperative floating of lesser toes after arthrodesis of first metatarsophalangeal joint and resection arthroplasty of lesser toes in rheumatoid forefoot deformity. They noticed a significant difference in the preoperative condition of first metatarsophalangeal joint including hallux valgus deformity, pain, a range of motion, an activity of daily living, and function between postoperative floating of the lesser toes vs non-floating. Additionally, they found worse Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot (JSSF) hallux scale scores before surgery in toes with the postoperative floating of the fourth and fifth lessor toes as compared to those in non-dislocating toes.
