Preoperative predictors of occult nodal disease in cT1N0 oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma: Review of 2,623 cases
Head & Neck May 19, 2018
Zhan KY, et al. - Experts evaluated the predictors of occult nodal disease in cT1N0 oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Data suggested that occult nodal disease could be significantly predicted by sex and tumour differentiation. For all moderately and poorly differentiated cT1N0 oral cavity SCC elective neck dissection (END) is recommended, regardless of the depth of invasion. In well-differentiated tumours, one can consider not performing END. In well-differentiated tumours the incidence of occult nodal disease was 5.9%, it was 17.4%, in moderately differentiated tumours, and 28.5% in poorly differentiated tumours.
