Preoperative plasma fibrinogen as a predictive factor for post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage
Clinical Otolaryngology Jul 25, 2019
Grasl S, et al. - In this retrospective chart review involving 456 patients, researchers ascertained if preoperative plasma fibrinogen is able to anticipate severe post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage. Participants in the study were patients who had tonsillectomy between 2008 and 2013. Data reported that 414 patients (90.8%) had no severe post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage. Findings suggested that high plasma fibrinogen levels are an independent, worse prognostic factor for severe bleeding after tonsillectomy and could be useful in identifying patients at higher risk for PTH.
