Preoperative neutrophil lymphocyte ratio but not platelet lymphocyte ratio predicts survival and early relapse in patients with oral, pharyngeal, and lip cancer
Head & Neck Jan 17, 2019
Yu W, et al. - Researchers retrospectively assessed the clinic-pathologic and hematological records to estimate the prognostic value of the preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in oral, pharyngeal, and lip cancer to predict the prevalence of survival and relapse. They observed that high NLR group expressed higher total relapse rate, higher local relapse rate, and higher relapse rate within 12 months. They noted the preoperative NLR value as a prognostic factor for both overall survival and relapse-free survival. Nevertheless, they did not found an association between preoperative PLR and survival or relapse.
