Preoperative interictal discharge patterns and magnetic resonance imaging findings affect prognosis of temporal lobe epilepsy surgery
European Neurology Sep 01, 2019
Ma W, et al. - In patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), researchers ascertained if preoperative interictal discharge patterns identified by EEG and MRI findings affect the surgical prognosis. From October 2010 to 2014, a retrospective analysis of 115 cases of refractory TLE patients was conducted based on the classification of preoperative interictal discharge patterns in EEG and MRI findings. If EEG's preoperative interictal discharge pattern is confined to the anterior region unilaterally, the prognosis is good. If MRI findings have abnormalities, the postoperative prognosis is good, irrespective of preoperative interictal discharge patterns in EEG. TLE patients with normal MRI findings and interictal discharge confined to the anterior unilateral region are highly recommended for surgical intervention.
