Preoperative femoral nerve block for hip fracture—A systematic review with meta-analysis
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Nov 14, 2019
Skjold C, et al. - Researchers sought for the efficacy of single-shot femoral nerve block (FNB) for hip fracture patients. Searching five databases, they included five trials (n = 254), where participants received FNB 30 minutes or more prior to surgery. The analysis yielded a very low quantity of evidence supporting preoperative single-shot FNB for hip fractures and a low certainty of evidence supporting preoperative single-shot FNB for hip fractures. They identified no studies using the ultrasound-guided technique. A decreased pain score was suggested by the data on non-ultrasound guided FNB’s relative to the use of systemic analgesia.
