Amponsah G, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the prevalence as well as prognostic significance of preoperative anaemia (PA) among noncardiac surgical patients in the Central Region of Ghana. In this patient population, PA was common and was independently and significantly related to prolonged hospital stay resulting in increased healthcare resources utilization. Furthermore, PA was identified as the main predictor for perioperative allogeneic blood transfusions and the use of haematinics.
