Preoperative administration of extended-release dinalbuphine sebacate compares with morphine for postlaparoscopic cholecystectomy pain management: A randomized study
Journal of Pain Research Sep 13, 2020
Lee SO, et al. - Naldebain (extended-release dinalbuphine sebacate, DS), an oil-based formulation for intramuscular injection, has been designed for extended release and can be used for preoperative analgesia over a 7-day period. Researchers here assessed the efficacy of DS injection relative to that of regular postoperative morphine provided when necessary for the management of post-laparoscopic cholecystectomy pain. They randomly allocated 44 patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy to receive either preoperative DS or postoperative morphine. Outcomes revealed sufficient analgesic effects of a single preoperative dose of DS along with a manageable safety profile and no interference with surgical anesthetics when compared to control cases that underwent surgery without preoperative DS treatment. This suggests preoperative administration of DS as safe and its possible efficacy in reducing the need for postoperative opioid use after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
