Prenatal prediction of survival in congenital diaphragmatic hernia: An audit of postnatal outcomes
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Feb 24, 2019
Petroze RT, et al. - Given the significance of proper measurement of prognostic indices for effective antenatal counseling in congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), researchers audited the accuracy of prenatal imaging with postnatal outcomes at two tertiary pediatric referral centers in this quality initiative. They analyzed prenatal lung–head ratio (LHR) and total fetal lung volume (TFLV) for CDH patients treated between 2006 and 2017, identifying 82 eligible CDH patients for inclusion. Outcomes support the predictive value of LHR and TFLV measures for CDH outcomes. Survival, avoidance of extracorporeal life support (ECLS), and primary repair were most associated with LHR values >45%. Mortality and patch repair was reported in correlation with TFLV values only.
