Prenatal exposure to SSRIs and SNRIs and risk for persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn: A systematic review, meta-analysis and network meta-analysis
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Sep 03, 2018
Masarwa R, et al. - The association between exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) during pregnancy and the risk for persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) was investigated via performing a systematic review, meta-analysis and network meta-analysis. The risk for PPHN between specific SSRI agents was determined in addition. Findings suggest an increased risk for PPHN in relation to exposure to SSRIs or SNRIs during pregnancy. Compared to other SSRIs, sertraline least frequently leads to PPHN, suggesting it may have the best safety profile for use in pregnancy in this regard.
