Prenatal exposure to acetaminophen and risk for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autistic spectrum disorder: A systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression analysis of cohort studies
American Journal of Epidemiology May 01, 2018
Masarwa R, et al. - Researchers determined the impact of acetaminophen use during pregnancy on the risk for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) in the offspring. The available data was of observational nature only. The analysis included 7 eligible retrospective cohorts including 132,738 mother and child pairs with a follow-up period of 3-11 years. Meta-regression analysis revealed that the link between exposure and ADHD increased with childs' age upon follow-up and with the mean duration of exposure. Data demonstrated that acetaminophen use during pregnancy was related to an increased risk for ADHD, ASD and hyperactivity symptoms.
