Prenatal assessment of cerebellar vermian lobulation: Fetal MRI with 3 Tesla post-mortem correlation
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Aug 11, 2017
Dovjak GO, et al. – The objective of this study is to optimize the imaging evaluation of fetal hindbrain malformations, this observational MRI study aimed to provide quantitative biometric data in normal vermian development in human fetal brains in vivo. Vermian lobulation can be precisely and reliably evaluated prenatally, on exact midsagittal T2–weighted sequences after 22 gestational weeks (GW)). Fetal vermian lobules demonstrate non–uniform growth, with an expansion of Declive + Folium + Tuber (DFT) and Culmen at the expense of spinocerebellar structures. An assessment of vermian lobulation could supply a better characterization of fetuses with hindbrain malformations.
