Premorbid functional status as a predictor of 1-year mortality and functional status in intensive care patients aged 80 years or older
Intensive Care Medicine Jul 09, 2018
Pietiläinen L, et al. - Authors evaluated the relationship between premorbid functional status (PFS) and 1-year mortality and functional status of very old intensive care patients. As per the findings, 62% of very old intensive care unit (ICU) patients were alive 1 year following ICU admission and a functional status comparable to the premorbid situation was seen in 78% of the survivors. The odds of death were doubled within a year with a poor PFS. The prediction of 1-year mortality was increased by the knowledge of PFS.
