Premature ovarian senescence and high miscarriage rate impair fertility in women with hepatitis C virus infection
Journal of Hepatology Sep 08, 2017
Karampatou A, et al. - In view of failing ovarian function in premenopausal Hepatitis C Virus positive (HCV+) women, researchers investigated reproductive history, risk of infertility and pregnancy outcomes in HCV+ women of childbearing age. They identified markers of ovarian senescence in HCV-positive women of reproductive age. This, in turn, seemed associated with a lower chance of live birth, greater risk of infertility, gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and miscarriage, which could be positively influenced by successful HCV cure.
