Preliminary evidence that melatonin is not a biomarker with children and adolescents with episodic migraine
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain May 08, 2019
Berger A, et al. - In children and adolescents with migraine, researchers examined the value of evening urinary melatonin metabolite levels for predicting migraine the next day. This observational study included 21 children and adolescents with migraine (aged 5-17 years) who provided urine samples for 10 days and kept a prospective headache diary during the same period. In children and adolescents, urinary melatonin metabolites did not help to predict migraine attacks overall. However, these levels were lower the night before in those who experienced a migraine with aura or premonitory symptoms, so they may be predictive for these sorts of migraine attacks.
