Preinjury patient characteristics and postinjury neurological status are associated with mortality following spinal cord injury
Spine Jun 18, 2018
Casper DS, et al. - Authors gauged the relationship between spinal cord injuries (SCI) and post-injury mortality by assessing SCI patients seen at a regional referral center. Findings suggested an association of substantial mortality with SCI. Shortly after injury, the occurrence of a significant share of the mortalities was seen. Experts noted a correlation of mortality with neurological deficit, severity of injury, and preinjury patient characteristics. Efforts are needed to address the concomitant disease processes related to neurological deficits to lessen this high rate of death.
