Prehospital administration of tranexamic acid in trauma patients: A 1:1 matched comparative study from a level 1 trauma center

The American Journal of Emergency Medicine May 04, 2019

El-Menyar A, et al. - Researchers investigated how prehospital administration of tranexamic acid (TXA) to injured patients influence mortality, thromboembolic events and need for blood transfusion in a level 1 trauma center. Adult trauma patients receiving or not receiving prehospital TXA were compared in this retrospective study. Outcomes revealed less in-hospital blood transfusion and massive transfusion protocol in correlation to prehospital TXA administration. The thromboembolic events and mortality did not increase significantly, however, they recommend performing a further evaluation in larger clinical trials.
