Pregnancy outcomes of early detected gestational diabetes: A retrospective comparison cohort study, Qatar
BMJ Open Feb 11, 2019
Bashir M, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers compared pregnancy outcomes in patients with early vs usual gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Between January and December 2016, GDM women who attended and delivered in the Women’s Hospital were included. There were 801 patients in the study, 273 early GDM (E-GDM) and 528 usual GDM (U-GDM). E-GDM women were older and had higher body mass index vs U-GDM at conception. The mean fasting and 1-hour blood glucose levels in E-GDM vs U-GDM were significantly higher. The data supported the concept of early screening and treatment of GDM in high-risk patients. Independent risk factors for macrosomia were preconception weight, gestational weight gain and the timing of diagnosis of GDM.
