Pregnancy outcomes in women with infertility and coexisting endometriosis and adenomyosis after laparoscopic surgery: A long-term retrospective follow-up study
BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth May 27, 2021
Shi J, Dai Y, Zhang J, et al. - The pregnancy outcomes of women with infertility with both adenomyosis (AM) and endometriosis (EM) after laparoscopic surgery were investigated and the relevant associated factors were identified. Researchers conducted a retrospective study including a total of 226 female patients with infertility diagnosed with both AM and EM. These women underwent laparoscopic surgery; 176 of these patients completed follow-up. Live births were recorded in 97 patients, including 81 full-term and 16 preterm deliveries. Observations suggest a possible correlation of endometriosis and adenomyosis with an adverse pregnancy outcome. These might be due to the size of the uterus and endometriosis fertility index. They recommend obstetricians and gynaecologists to be cautious regarding this potential adverse effect and manage these patients accordingly.
