Pregnancy outcome in women with active and inactive lupus nephritis: A prospective cohort study
Lupus May 20, 2019
Attia DH, et al. - In this prospective cohort study involving 119 pregnancies, researchers desired to know whether quiescent lupus nephritis at the onset of conception carries an increased risk of pregnancy complications vs pregnancies without a history of lupus nephritis. There were no significant differences in the frequency of maternal and fetal complications related to pregnancy between the two groups. No significant differences were found regarding the frequency of maternal and fetal complications between renal and non-renal pregnancies when data were re-analyzed after excluding patients experiencing renal flares during the 6 months preceding pregnancy. The authors concluded that lupus nephritis, per se, is not a risk factor for poor outcome of pregnancy; it is the activity of lupus nephritis at the onset of pregnancy.
