Pregnancy outcome in women undergoing liver biopsy during pregnancy: A nationwide population-based cohort study
Hepatology May 18, 2018
Ludvigsson JF, et al. - Researchers performed a nationwide population-based cohort study to investigate pregnancy outcomes in women who underwent liver biopsy during pregnancy. According to liver biopsy status, relative risks (RRs) was calculated for adverse pregnancy outcomes using 1,953,887 unexposed pregnancies with and without a record of liver disease as a reference. They reported that there was no relationship between liver biopsy during pregnancy and adverse pregnancy outcome apart from a moderately increased risk of preterm birth and small for gestational age. They suggested that potential excess risks should be weighed against the advantages of having a liver biopsy that could influence clinical management of the patient and indirectly fetal health.
