Pregnancy complications, treatment characteristics and birth outcomes in women with atopic dermatitis in Denmark
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Sep 28, 2018
Hamann CR, et al. - In mothers with atopic dermatitis (AD), researchers evaluated the risk of prenatal, obstetric and birth complications as well as dermatologic care received during pregnancy. Topical corticosteroids and ultraviolet therapy were chiefly used by these women for disease control. While in maternal AD, an over-representation of premature rupture of membranes and staphylococcal neonatal septicemia was seen, no correlations were found with any other significant prenatal, obstetric or birth outcome. In adjusted analysis, findings suggested an inverse association of maternal AD with gestational diabetes, but a positive relationship with premature rupture of membranes and staphylococcal neonatal septicemia —although the latter was rare.
